I’m loving my new Nikon D200 but still learning how to do the digital thing now that I’m in control! Film was a mass of filters and films to achieve lighting and other perfections. Now its about white-balance and other new things to think about. Nikon Digital Forum - here is a great article on white-balance. If you learn nothing else - learn about White Balance. For my famliy - who want a new camera that takes better shots - its about light and the lense. Get a nicer point and shoot that has a better lense. Here are two examples: Olympus SP-550 and the Canon PowerShot S3 IS. But the best one out there is the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ50. These cameras have great lenses on them and lots of control but they are one unit, no removable lenses and they have terrific automatic settings. A great site of product reviews and information and forums: Digital Photography Review™ is an independent resource dedicated to the provision of news, reviews and information about Digital Photography and Digital Imaging. Digital Photography Review is a fully owned website of Askey.Net Consulting Ltd. dpreview.com is edited and maintained by Philip & Joanna Askey. Photo.Net: Philip Greenspun, a well known writer and MIT instructor on the development of community web sites, founded photo.net in the early 90’s as a showcase for his own travel writing and photography. It has since developed into the largest general photography community on the web. According to Alexa, it is the second largest photography site (after dpreview) with over 2.7 million unique visitors per month, and more than 40 million page impressions per month. Philip still helps guide the site as a member of its Board of Directors, although he is no longer involved in day-to-day operations. SLR Gear is another product review and forums website good info on lenses Ken Rockwell has collected his experience and thoughts on his website - Specific to NIKON . Mark Meyer - Photographer - Articles Section. One thing that interests me is the GPS capability of the D200. Chris Fierro started this page on GPS and the D200. A catchall general photography webstie: Photography Review. Of course I’ll have my opinions here on my website mixed in with pictures and stuff.
Enjoyed talking with you last night, and appreciated sharing your tech expertise. I looked at the D80. It looks like a good fit. Pricing is confusing. I think there are some dealers who unbundle everything and low ball. What price should I be looking for for the D80 body plus an adequately sized memory card? I think your idea of shoot with my existing Nikon lens is smart, but I figure I would cave eventually and go for the zoom that is designed for the digital cameras.
