Summary: Houston 5+ light late. Ran on fumes. Decided to get out of the hotel late and ran to the airport and then around a park with lots of locals playing soccer. Crazy black birds attacked me. Finished strong in the end; little bit of heat pain. Got water and long walk back to cool down.

My older kids discovered my modest stack of old Marvel Comics recently. It was a rush to watch the two of them lounging around the family room reading them. Daniel tearing through 1978 copies of Iron Man and maia reading the Hulk. I don’t know why the craze changed - kids all want immediate gratifcation or passive entertainment I guess. I’m going to go to a book store today and get some to send to camp. I heard Oxford Comics is still around though most places that sell are independents and as this link discussing the demise of the independents points out, not many places to go these days.

Classic running day, LSD – felt like crap and didn’t want to go. Easy day, figured 3 miles trudging. But then after 1.5 I had just got to the Schuylkill River and was prepared to turn around, HR was still below 150, so I kept going. Along the way the view got better and I stretched out. Went to 2.5 and turned around. Came back the same way and at 4 miles came was passed by a young woman, maybe 20 with absolutely perfect legs. I resisted the urge to not be passed and kept my HR down. She then stopped maybe ¼ mile down the way and started to walk. She turned and took her shirt off, like that girl on the US soccer team; sports bra underneath just above her six-pack. I smiled and said “thank you†and went on to easily complete my 5th mile.

Just went for 3 miles in the city of brotherly love. I don’t think that applies to driving, every chance these people get they honk to correct their “brothers†on the road. I am staying at the Four Seasons on Logan Square. I ran up Ben Franklin Parkway to the Eakins Oval and then up and down the steps of the Philadelphia Museum of Art – yes – Rocky’s steps! I think I ran 6 times – did intervals, driving my heart rate up to 185 and then jogging down and around till it went below 160. It was fun – many people, kids and adults were getting their pictures taken at the top with their fists in the air.
